On April 28th, Michigan’s longest running Cancer Society gala event will bring together Southwest Michigan’s top community and business leaders in support of the mission to save lives by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back.

Since 1982 the Drive For Life has raised more than $2.2 million helping those who have been affected by cancer in Southwest Michigan and beyond. The Drive For Life supports local programs such as Road to Recovery, providing patients with travel to and from cancer treatments free of charge; Reach to Recovery, a breast cancer support program; Cancer Resources Centers at area hospitals; and prevention and education services.

“Kalamazoo is a community made up of charitable people who stand up for each other and help their neighbors,” Zeigler added. “For the past 30 years the volunteers and donors who have made the Drive For Life so successful are a huge testament to that fact. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when we all unite for a common goal.”

Tickets are $200 each and may be purchased at all Harold Zeigler dealership locations. Only 650 tickets will be sold. On May 7th, Goodwill of Northwest Ohio will hold an Auto Auction on Lagrange Street in Toledo.

The vehicles have all been donated, and the proceeds from the auction help fund Goodwill’s mission of providing education, training and career services for people with disabilities and other work-related barriers to employment.

Highlights of the event include a 1983 Criss Craft Scorpion Sailboat, a 25 foot Venture Sailboat, Volvo 240 and 740 series, a Yamaha ATV, Chevy and Ford Pickup trucks, Toyota’s, Mazda’s, Minivans, and more.

Girl Scouts Camp Friends Camp Cuisine Benefit Dinner and Auction

Camp Friends, a non-profit organization that raises funds to help meet the financial and program needs of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Great Trail Camp in Malvern, Ohio will be holding its annual Camp Cuisine Benefit Dinner and Auction on April 2 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1720 Schneider St. N.W., in North Canton.

The group has funded two woodsheds and a fire circle, as well as renovated existing ones. Camp Friends’ major project will be the replacement of an outhouse at one of Great Trail’s campsites this spring. Another outhouse also needs to be replaced.

Highlights of this year’s Auction Items include:

  • A hot air balloon ride for two
  • An overnight and breakfast for two at the Spread Eagle Tavern and Inn in Hanoverton Ohio
